2012 Topps Platinum Football NFL Trading Cards Box Break Recap And Review

A lot of the Rainbow collecting has been taken out of this year’s Topps Platinum NFL Trading Cards.  Gone are the Emerald and Gold parallels, all that remains are the Ruby parallels and you can only find them in Hobby packs, not retail.  What’s also gone is the numbering of any cards other than the hits.  This shifts Platinum from being intended for parallel chasers, focusing the product mainly on hit seekers.  Even that category gets narrowed down as the number of veteran autos has been reduced this year. All of this makes 2012 Topps Platinum Football, which already appears to be kind of hit or miss, a product with a much narrower appeal.  That is a advantage for some collectors and a disadvantage for others.

Topps Platinum falls under our premium cards category.  Each box contains 20 packs with 5 cards per pack.  Each box delivers 3 autographs, two of those will be Rookie On-Card Autographs and one will be an Autograph Patch Relic card.

Here are some of the cards we pulled.

The Order Of The First 20 Picks In The 2013 NFL Draft

Now that the 2012 NFL regular season has concluded the draft order for the first 20 picks of the 2013 NFL Draft have been determined.  The Kansas City Chiefs will have the number one pick overall.

At 2 wins, 14 losses, the Chiefs finished the season with the same record as the Jacksonville Jaguars but get the first pick based on the Strength of Schedule Tiebreaker.

The combined record of all the teams faced during the regular season determines the Strength of Schedule for any team. Jacksonville faced teams with a combined record of 138 – 118 while Kansas City faced teams with a combine record of 132 – 124.  Fewer opponent wins equates to an easier schedule for the Chiefs.

Picks 21 to 32 of the first round will be determined based on the results of the 2012 Playoffs with the winning team of Super Bowl XLVII getting the last pick in the first round of the draft.   The only caveat know to that is that Washington’s first round draft pick will go to the St. Louis Rams as part of a previous trade that gave the Redskins the second overall pick in 2012.  This was the trade that allowed the Redskins to pick up RG3.  (See the full details of this trade, use this link to see that post.)

So here is the order for the first 20 picks of the 2013 NFL Draft that will take place in New York City on April 25 – 27, 2013.

Did The Trade Happy Rams Give It All Away In The 2012 NFL Draft?

Draft day trades are always interesting.  Teams try to improve their position, maneuvering their way higher in the draft so they can snag the next superstar.  But in 2012, the St. Louis Rams seem to have been a little trade happy, giving away the number 2 pick overall and a lot more.  With RG3 a candidate for rookie of the year, the question is did the Rams give away too much?

Here are the details of all the trades the Rams conducted involving the 2012 draft starting with the biggest trade.
