2012 13 Panini NBA Hoops Basketball Box Break Recap And Review

For 2011-12 Panini went old school, bringing back NBA Hoops with a fresh take on the classic inaugural 1989-90 set.  2012-13 Panini NBA Hoops Basketball comes into its own  it with refinements that transcend its young collectors entry point to become a serious set builders release that all collectors of  basketball cards should consider.

We classify 2012-13 Panini NBA Hoops Basketball as trading cards.  Each box contains 36 – 8 card packs with the promise of 2 autographs per box.

Here are some of the cards we pulled.

Deron Williams, front and back.
I chose this card to show you the new Brooklyn Nets logo

As in the past, some players, like Chris Paul, have multiple cards.  These are not parallel versions.  They all have different card numbers.

Card 180, front and back, Card 110
Card 93, card 18, Card 101

Overall Look
While it was fun to collect a retro set last year, these cards just look better. The insert sets look really nice with Courtside and Action Photos being the best of the bunch.  The Draft night rookie cards are smartly numbered in draft order and are a great record of that special moment in time for those players.

Quality and Variety of Players
This is a fantastic checklist, the base set and the inserts, quality and variety at it highest. 301 base cards is a great number and the addition of coaches to the line up is an appreciated choice.

Do the hits hold up?
With close to 160 different unnumbered base player autographs it is impossible to know the ratios of star to backup autographs but at this price point it is hard to complain. there is also the return of autographed buyback cards from the original 89-90 Hoops set including David Robinson's Rookie Card #310, and an explosion of rookie autographs, from last season and this season.

Will you want to collect them all?
Set builders should be all over this.

5 out of 5

2012-13 Panini NBA Hoops Basketball stands strong enough of its own merits, providing a great set of cards to collect.
